Officer Caesar Goodson was found not guilty on all charges Thursday morning. Goodson was accused of causing the death of Freddie Gray in April 2015.
Goodson faced the most serious charges among the six officers charged, and was the third to stand trial. Officer William Porter’s trial ended with a hung jury in December. Officer Edward Nero was found not guilty on all charges last month.
The verdict is another setback for Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby, and nationwide efforts to ensure police accountability.
Gray, who was 25, lived in Baltimore and died after suffering a spinal cord injury while in police custody. He was arrested for having an illegal knife, although the switchblade he was carrying was later determined to be legal.
