is that between the content and his delivery he has done several things that are very important
- he will have been so scary he will drive most of the remaining Bernie supporters to Hillary Clinton
- he will have antagonized Black and Hispanic Republicans
I think that will be seen starkly by the darkness of his speech versus the positiveness of the introduction by his daughter Ivanka. In fact, I think that made his speech seem even darker.
- there are so many false statements in his speech it was amazing.
- the incompetence of his campaign came out again in the fact that text of his speech was released completely several hours early, allowing for the fact checking to begin, and the sending out of the email that should have been after the speech before even his daughter began speaking
He is full of bluster and anger, and cannot support much of what he says. He cannot stand up to Hillary Clinton in a debate, among other things he does not really know how to deal with powerful women.
There is a lot more I could add. I will reflect, listen, read more commentary.
This speech was NOT a pivot.
This speech did NOT speak to a lot of people Trump would need to support him in order to have any chance at winning in November.
As a result of this speech, I do not think it makes any difference whom Clinton picks as her running mate. I am going to guess she will pick Kaine, in part because he comes across as positive, in part because he is seen as credible as a President, in part because he speaks Spanish, in part because he can run rings around Pence in a debate, and in part because she is comfortable with him. I know some here will be disappointed, but I also think that having listened to the darkness of Trump’s speech there is little that Clinton could do to dissuade people from supporting her.
Make of this what you will. I am on my third scotch (neat), and too wired to go to sleep, so if you choose to engage I will be here at least for a while to respond.
