Back in July a drunken William Cox, formerly of the Somervell County Sheriff’s Department, was found sitting in the parking lot of the Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Ellis County, Texas. A police officer responded to a call of shots fired in the residential neighborhood. He found Cox who admitted he had shot his gun into the air, and into the church, as a way of relieving stress. Cox told the officer he was upset over the shootings of police officers in Dallas. Fox 4 News says “Cox can be heard telling the officer he fired the shots “cause my boys are getting killed in Dallas” and said “the black c--n started killing my boys.” Their video of the story is below the fold.
The incident happened on July 13. Cox was arrested and charged with deadly conduct and was promptly fired the next day. He was also released from jail that day on no bail. Fox 4 News submitted an Open Records request to get the booking photo of Cox and were given a photo of a brick wall. You read that correctly: there was no booking photo of William Cox to be found. And as of this article Cox has not been charged; the pastor of the church signed an affidavit of non-prosecution and has forgiven Cox. But the Ellis County District Attorney? Not so much. He’s hot as fish grease behind all of this and says his office will investigate.
Patrick Wilson, Ellis County District Attorney, told Fox 4 News in an interview: 'The criticism that is being lobbed against law enforcement and the criminal justice system in general in our community and our society today, the foundation of that criticism is what's illustrated in this case.
'And that is favoritism. That some people in the criminal justice system get treated differently.
'And how can I dispel that narrative when these facts completely support that?'
Yes … how can he?
