Former Sen. Russ Feingold continues to dominate in the polls in his bid to take his Senate seat back from Republican Ron Johnson. Among likely voters in Wisconsin, Marquette finds his lead opening:
Among likely voters in November’s election, Feingold has the support of 53 percent while Johnson is supported by 42 percent. Among likely voters in July, Feingold was supported by 49 percent and Johnson by 44 percent.
When Libertarian candidate Phil Anderson is included in the Senate contest, among registered voters, Feingold receives 47 percent, Johnson 38 percent and Anderson 7 percent. Among likely voters, it is Feingold 50 percent, Johnson 39 percent and Anderson 7 percent.
Feingold also has the advantage of a 44/36 favorable rating, compared to Johnson's 34/32. And despite a full term in office, 33 percent of voters still don't have an opinion of Johnson. Given his track record, maybe that’s a good thing for him. Feingold also has the advantage of base enthusiasm—92 percent support him, whereas Johnson gets 87 percent of Republicans. With the top of the Republican ticket cratering, Johnson's problems just get worse and worse. And Feingold is not going to let up for one minute. His campaign sends this response to the poll:
"Today’s poll comes on the first day of the general election and is a reminder of the clear choice Wisconsinites face between Russ, who is focused on fighting for the middle class and working families of this state, and Sen. Johnson who continues to ignore Wisconsinites in favor of corporate interests and the billionaires backing his reelection bid. Sen. Johnson has spent years in Washington working to protect a system that props up multi-millionaires like himself and powerful corporations that ship jobs overseas."
Feingold is going to get this one back. Let’s help him.
