The news for the GOP is brutal. We all know about the top of the ticket, but the lesser-known story is how much it’s killing them down-ballot. For example:
- Their House fundraising has fallen off a cliff. House Republicans raised just $4.6 million in July, half of what they raised in June. Democrats? $12 f’n million.
- Senate Republicans raised just $4.2 million in July, compared to $7.5 million for Senate Democrats. Senate Democrats have $31.5 million in the bank, compared to $23.8 million for Republicans.
- Because of Donald Trump and exacerbated by his claims of a “rigged” election, Republican voter enthusiasm is uncharacteristically down.
- Dems have opened up a 5-point lead in the generic House ballot, close to the point that overcomes the Republican gerrymander.
- So yes, the House is in play.
- That’s why Republicans are reaching “new levels of panic.”
Republicans are in deep, deep trouble, and nothing suggests things will get better for them—it’s rather the opposite. So we have a historic opportunity to deeply wound the Republican Party, delivering the kind of losses that won’t just help us in the short term—the first two years of the Clinton presidency, where we can get lots of stuff “rammed” through Congress, plus a solidly liberal Supreme Court.
No, I’m talking about creating the kind of deep damage that will have a lasting, long-term impact on the GOP, hindering its efforts to recuperate from the Trump disaster. They are drowning. Our job now is to throw them that metaphorical anchor. And you can do that a couple of ways.
First, you donate. Here are our current slates of endorsed candidates:
Our House candidates are specifically chosen to expand the map beyond the top-tier battlegrounds. So give! Don’t be shy. Don’t procrastinate. Don’t find excuses. Just do it. Donate. Now!
Second, find a local campaign, whether it’s presidential, House, Senate, or other race, and offer to volunteer. It doesn’t matter how much or how little time you have. Do it! If you can register voters? Great! Knock on doors? Awesome! Make calls? Fantastic! Be an Election Day monitor? Super! There’s something suited for your skillset and interests. So do it!
Donate. Volunteer.
Donald Trump is giving us our assist. It’s up to us to take full advantage of it and close the deal.
