Oh, that Clinton Foundation. Such a scandal. What has it ever done for anyone? Uh, besides helping 11 million people get AIDS medication. But other than that?
Zainab Salbi, founder of Women for Women International, lays out what the Clinton Global Initiative has meant to her work:
I have circulated in the global conference world quite a bit (and sometimes been jaded by it). But no organization has had as great an impact as CGI has on Women for Women International and women’s rights: I raised more funds for women survivors of wars while attending CGI than through any other initiatives — from an individual who contributed $25,000 for humanitarian work in Afghanistan to donors and companies that contributed more than a million dollars for women’s education in Rwanda.
It’s deeply unfortunate that we live in a world where people have to hustle charitable donations from the ultra-wealthy to support good work. But as long as we live in that world, better the Clinton model than the Trump Foundation model of illegal political contributions, Tim Tebow jerseys, and giant portraits of Donald Trump.
