Donald Trump can shout about building a wall, and he’s clear enough when making racial threats, but he doesn’t seem to be capable of giving a straight answer when it comes to the Trump Foundation.
“It gives money to that” … meaning what? Is Trump admitting that the foundation has been put to illegal, personal uses? And then there are those other words. They may at first appear to be words selected from the English language, but assembled in this order in relation to this question, they have no meaning.
Or actually, they have one meaning: Donald Trump can’t defend how he’s used his foundation.
As for the “report” that “put that to sleep,” the only other thing that Trump has produced recently would be Wednesday’s statement claiming that David Fahrenthold’s reporting on the Trump Foundation was “peppered with inaccuracies and omissions” without citing a single example. Since then, Junior Trump was unable to produce an example. Mike Pence was unable to produce an example. Trump was unable to produce an example.
Wake up, Donald. This story isn’t snoozing yet.

Other transcriptions of Trump’s speech indicate that he said “It gives money to vets” rather than “It gives money to that.” But even without the implied confession, Trump’s non-statement doesn’t address the problem: Donald Trump has deliberately and repeatedly violated tax laws in using his foundation as a personal slush fund.
