I am writing this at the explicit request of Angela Marx, who explained this effort to the community in this post on September 23. I do so willingly, and with enthusiasm.
And if you are reading this as a result of my posting on Social Media, you do not have to be a participant at Daily Kos for this to apply to you, for you to find benefit both in offering support and in obtaining wonderful products for your 4-footed family members.
Like many here, I have been a donor to the efforts of the community quilts these two wonderful ladies have done for members of the community who were ill or suffering loss.
My wife and I have experienced the generosity of this community with our own receipt of a quilt, as I diaried in Leaves received the quilt!!! Included in the package, knowing we had cats, were several of the now famous, and the subject of this community effort, Pootie Pads. Our cats absolutely loved them.
Sara R and Winglion are now trying to get have an ongoing business in Pootie Pads and related.
They have established Kickstarter to help with the start-up funds, seeking a bit less than $25,000 as their target. You can see the progress towards that target and contribute yourself by following this link.
Pooties are felines. Some of you have woozles, which are dogs. Don’t worry. The ladies are prepared for both.
Let me quote from that Kickstarter website:
Generous amounts of blissful organic catnip (for cats) and soothing lavender & thyme (for dogs) in long-lasting quilts made with love
Sara has written an explanation of how this came about at that site. I hope she won’t mind my sharing what she wrote:
Ann and I moved to Oregon after caring for our parents through their final illnesses. We live in a little bungalow we affectionately call “Catnip Manor” and have a sewing studio in our basement. There, for some years, we have made a slender living making quilts bearing messages of love and support for people who are ill or facing other hardship (something we call Community Quilts). In addition to this, about four years ago, we started organizing gifts of quilts (ours and those of others), handknit hats and scarves, teddy bears, and books to VA hospitals around the country. In order to make ends meet while making these quilts for people, we developed Pootie Pads and have been delighted by how much pleasure our little herbal quilts have brought to pets and their people all across the country. However, there are many, many more cats and dogs who have not yet enjoyed Pootie Pads! With your backing, we hope to reach a much wider customer base, provide a secure living for ourselves, and even export a well-made-in-the-USA product.
The Kickstarter ends October 7. I hope you will contribute.
But you don’t have to wait until then. If you think the products would be useful to you, you can purchase them now by simply going to Winglion Quilts aka pootiepads.com and purchasing some of their products.
