Sanders-Warren Before New Hampshire Would Rock the Nation
by Brent Budowsky
Elizabeth Warren should endorse the presidential candidacy of Bernie Sanders before the New Hampshire primary or, in the alternative, Mr. Sanders should publicly state that if he receives the Democratic nomination his first act will be to ask Ms. Warren to run with him as his vice-presidential nominee in a historic and revolutionary campaign to bring back the spirit of Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy to the leadership of the nation.
The coming weeks will be one of the most important moments in the history of the American progressive movement….
With the future of the Democratic Party and the nation hanging in the balance, now is the time for Ms. Warren to end her neutrality in the presidential campaign and endorse Mr. Sanders, or for Mr. Sanders to take the revolutionary act and say that if nominated he would offer her the vice presidential nomination and seek to run on a Sanders-Warren ticket.
While all of these articles bring up similar points the most important being (IMHO) that a Warren Vice Presidency would do the following:
1) Ensure Sanders’ economic policies would continue no matter what
2) Ensure the path for a Woman to become the next President
3) Answer the ‘doubts’ people have about Sanders’ age
But what I have also found in the comments is something that would be Historic
Warren, if she continue on to become President,
would be our first Native American President
(We have had VP Curtis under Herbert Hoover who was also VP, however, the Great Depression ended his term in office and potential for higher office)
Additionally, people have said ‘2 senators from the same geographic area’ is an issue.
But Elizabeth Warren is from the Plains state of Oklahoma, potentially giving Sanders/Warren some Southern/Midwestern ground game.
And the excitement about Sanders/Warren is evident in the comments — a dream ticket that would energize the most progressive part of the base and the youth / 99% vote.
And with Bernie starting to surpass Clinton in the Polls, and proving to be the most electable (the last argument of the Clinton campaign) picking Warren would galvanize his support and change the narrative from the Trump news cycle and increase his donor base exponentially.
Remember, many progressives lobbied for Warren to run. Having her as plan B in the White House or planning to run as the Next President would give Progressive Economic principles a solid number of years to reverse 40 years of trickle down economics that have left the middle class in a struggle.
And I tend to agree with Mr. Budowsky
The coming weeks will be one of the most important moments in the history of the American progressive movement.
