Republican New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte apparently thinks she can appeal to those millennials by handing out free condoms at college campuses. It's a gimmick she’s using to highlight her support for making prescription birth control available over-the-counter.
‘‘Obviously it’s something that gets attention, and that’s part of the goal,’’ campaign spokeswoman Liz Johnson said Monday. ‘‘There’s so much misinformation flying around out there, and one of the things we want to make sure gets through is that Kelly is a leader on women’s health and she does support making birth control more accessible.’’
Yes, this is the leader on women's health who, as of the end of August, was airing an ad about women's health with a link to a page that didn't exist on her website. She's fixed that now. Sort of. She put something up at KellyforNH.com/...—that same ad about how much she cares. They did take the screen with the website address off of it, which was much simpler than actually creating a plan.
The truth is, Ayotte has voted numerous times to repeal Obamacare and its important coverage for women—including prescription birth control without a co-pay. She's voted multiple times to defund Planned Parenthood. She's campaigned on overturning Roe v. Wade. She couldn't give enough condoms away to make up for all the damage she would do to women's reproductive health.
