Join us tonight for live-blogging of the debate between vice presidential nominees Tim Kaine and Mike Pence at 9 PM Eastern Time. |
Today’s comic by Jen Sorensen is Trump's tremendous stamina:
• Here’s a chance for you to be as “smart” on your taxes as Mr. Donald J. Trump.
• GOP Department of Bad Timing: Minnesota Republicans sent this attack out over the weekend alleging that Democratic challenger state House of Representatives candidate John Huot had been delinquent in paying his taxes. In fact, his back taxes from a failed flower business have been paid.
• Brandon Friedman, once known at Daily Kos as The Angry Rakkasan, writes a knock-’em-flat piece on PTSD for the NY Daily News. He was diagnosed with PTSD in 2004:
Many people think PTSD means veterans are permanently damaged. That they are dangerous. That they won’t fit in. That they can’t hold a steady job.
When Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump talked about the military this week, he advanced those mistaken beliefs. He said PTSD happens to troops who “can’t handle it.” He said that if “you’re strong,” then “you can handle it.”
This is nonsense. That’s not how brain science works.
• NRA makes Paris robbery of Kim Kardashian into a political attack on gun reform: Five armed robbers dressed as police officers broke into Kardashian’s Paris apartment Sunday and stole $10 million worth of jewelry. The National Rifle Association tweeted:
“Wait, criminals held @KimKardashian at gunpoint in Paris?” the NRA posted to its official Twitter account. “How is that possible? Does anyone know if they passed a background check first?”
“It's shocking that these criminals did not subject themselves to Paris' strict #guncontrol laws before committing this awful crime,” it wrote minutes later.
If only she had been wearing a Glock in a shoulder holster, she could have protected her jewelry by shooting it out at the front door with these five, riiiiiight?
• Someone made a candle that smells like newly unboxed Apple product. No, we’re not kidding.
• New Pew poll shows Americans more divided along partisan lines than ever over climate change:
Seven-in-ten liberal Democrats (70%) trust climate scientists’ a lot to give full and accurate information about the causes of climate change, compared with just 15% of conservative Republicans. [...]
...conservative Republicans are more inclined to say climate research findings are influenced by scientists’ desire to advance their careers (57%) or their own political leanings (54%) most of the time. Small minorities of liberal Democrats say either influence occurs most of the time (16% and 11%, respectively).
• John Oliver explains the obstacles in the way of holding police accountable for their actions.
• On today’s Kagro in the Morning show, we catch up on three days worth of Trump trash fires, some old, some new. Greg Dworkin has lots of polling news, and it’s all pretty good. For today’s possibly incoherent rant: the “deplorables” epidemic, mental illness & Trump’s every wingnut’s love for OPM.
