Valerie Wilson at the Economic Policy Institute writes—African Americans are paid less than whites at every education level:
While the economy continues to improve and wages are finally beginning to inch up for most Americans, African Americans are still being paid less than whites at every education level. As you can see from the chart below, while a college education results in higher wages—both for whites and blacks—it does not eliminate the black-white wage gap. African Americans are still earning less than whites at every level of educational attainment.
A recent EPI report, Black-white wage gaps expand with rising wage inequality, shows that this gap persists even after controlling for years of experience, region of the country, and whether one lives in an urban or rural area. In fact, since 1979, the gaps between black and white workers have grown the most among workers with a bachelor’s degree or higher—the most educated workers. More school will certainly increase wages, but education alone is not enough to overcome the effects of racial discrimination in pay. Closing this part of the racial pay gap begins with consistent enforcement of anti-discrimination laws in the hiring, promotion, and pay of women and minority workers, as well as greater transparency around within-firm pay by race, ethnicity, and gender.

BLAST FROM THE PAST
At Daily Kos on this date in 2007—Blackwater US Uh Oh:
Two days after Blackwater USA employees opened fire and killed as many as 11 Iraqi civilians whose only crime was getting in the "security contractors" way, Blackwater's employee, the State Department said:
It's also important to remember that this convoy was attacked...
There was -- the basic fact is that there was an attack on the convoy.
I understand that the convoy was attacked and that there was a response.
And a Blackwater USA spokesman claimed:
Blackwater regrets any loss of life, but this convoy was violently attacked by armed insurgents, not civilians, and our people did their job to defend human life.
And what reason would the State Department and Blackwater have had to lie? I mean, besides the nearly 200 times Blackwater had fired on Iraqi civilians in the past, or the time a drunk Blackwater employee murdered a bodyguard of the Iraqi Vice President, or the more than $1 billion in contracts Blackwater has received from this administration.
On today’s Kagro in the Morning show, host David Waldman (remember him?) outsources debate review to Greg Dworkin & Joan McCarter, though Mike Pence insists we did not do that. Yesterday’s Matt Schlapp citation chased down. Paul Ryan: handsome martyr. Ayotte put on the spotte.
