The most popular politician in Nevada is Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval, and the GOP there is strategically using him to try to wrest the Senate seat Harry Reid is retiring over to their column.
The Reno-only buy, obviously designed to shore up Heck's numbers in Nevada's swing county, is about $900,000, a knowledgeable source told me. Sandoval is by far the state's most popular elected official, with an approval rating that easily crests 60 percent in most polls.
"Joe understands Nevada, and he has dedicated his life to service," Sandoval says in a rare positive spot in this contentious, tossup race. "I'm voting for Joe Heck."
For the rest of the state, Heck has the Kochs, who have been pouring millions into the race, with more promised.
In a year that's stacked against them Republicans desperately want this seat as much to poke Harry Reid in they eye as to shore up their numbers in the Senate. With a month to go, it's neck and neck.
Can you pitch in with $3 to help Catherine Cortez Masto beat Joe Heck, and the Kochs?
Senator Harry Reid is retiring. We must keep this seat in Democratic hands with Catherine Cortez Masto. Click here to volunteer on the ground in Nevada today.
