University of Virginia adjunct professor Douglas Muir, who hangs out in both the university’s School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Darden School of Business, has taken a leave from the university after comparing Black Lives Matter to the KKK.
Sigh.
Last week, BLM Network co-founder Alicia Garza spoke in Charlottesville at the school.
“Black Lives Matter aims to end state-sanctioned violence once and for all,” Garza told the audience at the event, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. “We are fighting for the sanctity and dignity of all of us, and not just for black men. We are fighting for black men, black queer people, black trans people, immigrants and the disabled community.”
A local real estate agent who attended the event posted a picture of Garza to his Facebook page and wrote that she is “working for dignity for everyone.”
Muir responded, saying, “Black lives matter is the biggest rasist (sic) organisation (sic) since the clan (sic). Are you kidding me. Disgusting!!!”
A Charlottesville resident later took a screenshot of Muir’s comments and alerted university officials through social media.
Muir obviously has a poor grasp of both history and reality. He’s also a poor speller.
Once the university found out about Muir’s views they promptly and strongly condemned them. The university’s vice president and provost was “disturbed and saddened;” the dean of the School of Engineering said Muir’s comments were “entirely inappropriate;” and the School of Business released a statement saying that Muir’s comments “do not in any way represent the viewpoint or values” of the school.
Who knew that three little words could be such triggers?
Regardless of viewpoints on tactics, philosophy, etc., one thing we can absolutely thank Black Lives Matter for is pulling back the curtain on the lie of a post-racial nation.
