Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D. MA) in support of Russ Feingold’s (D. WI) U.S. Senate campaign:
Last week I was in Wisconsin campaigning for my friend Russ Feingold – a guy who has been fighting for working families since long before I joined the Senate.
The energy and excitement for Russ in Madison and Milwaukee was incredible (I’ve still got the “Russ for Us” chants stuck in my head). It’s no surprise that Russ has been leading in every single poll in this campaign.
But Donald Trump, Paul Ryan and the Republicans have had their sights set on Wisconsin – and after millions of dollars in right-wing cash flooding the airwaves and chipping away at our lead, the latest poll shows Russ only up by two points. That’s way, way too close for comfort – and I’m not taking anything for granted.
Russ is a real, honest-to-goodness, all the way down Progressive – and I’m proud to help him. Can we get 12,000 grassroots donations for Russ before his big debate tonight at 7:00pm tonight? It’s a huge goal, but Russ can’t rely on billionaires and giant corporations to fund his campaign. He’s counting on us to help him fight back.
At tonight’s debate, Wisconsinites will hear from a man I met 20 years ago who was willing to stand up to big banks and credit card companies. Tonight, they will hear how Russ led the fight to keep money out of politics. How he was an early opponent of the war in Iraq and the only Senator to vote against the PATRIOT Act. How he voted against the Defense of Marriage Act back in 1996 and announced support of full marriage equality a decade ago.
But we don’t just need the people willing to watch a Senate debate on a Friday night to hear that message. Russ needs help to go door-to-door, person-to-person, to talk about what this election is all about.
Because as much as we need Russ Feingold fighting for our values in the Senate, we need his opponent – radical Tea Party Senator Ron Johnson – out of the Senate.
Ron Johnson called my bill to let young people refinance their student loans “radically unfair.” He called Social Security a “Ponzi scheme.” He doesn’t just oppose raising the minimum wage – he wants to repeal the federal minimum wage entirely.
And even after disgusting tapes revealed Donald Trump bragging about sexually assaulting women, Ron Johnson is sticking with his endorsement of Trump like a puppy on a leash. No matter what sexist, racist, bigoted thing that Trump says or does to totally disqualify himself from being President, Ron Johnson is sticking with – in his words – “the Ronald and the Donald.”
Simply put: Russ Feingold needs our help, and the choice has never been clearer. Can you help Russ fight back with the 12,000th contribution before his debate tonight? Even $5 makes a difference.
Thanks for being a part of this, and Go Russ!
Elizabeth
