Today’s comic by Jen Sorensen is Kiss and yell:
• Private prison company helps bankroll Trump Super PAC.
• Like father, like son: Donald Trump Jr. has a history of rancid comments in shock-jock radio show appearances. He’s berated overweight people, spewed Arab stereotypes and, after hearing reactions from survivors of the Aurora, Colorado, theatre slayings in July 2012, said on the “Opie and Anthony” show:
"Everything was going good until, uh, we saw gas and sparks, and sounded like really strong fireworks, uh, and then you just hear people yelling and actually just a few, uh, rows away from me a girl gets up holding her jaw. I guess she had got shot," a witness said.
"Overall I give the movie two thumbs up," Trump Jr. exclaimed in reaction.
• This would be awkward for any other presidential candidate: David Duke, the former Kluck in the Klan, neo-Nazi and current candidate for the Senate from Louisiana, sent out an email fund-raiser proudly connecting himself toe Donald Trump: “Thank God Trump has emerged and embraced my issues.” He has promised to sent a hat saying “I’m for Duke & Trump” to anyone who contributed $50 or more to his campaign. Duke has not been doing well in the polls of the 24 candidates seeking the Senate seat, but he always does better on Election Day than in the polls. Under pressure, Trump disavowed any ties to Duke in February although he has been asked to repeat this several times since then.
• 70 million Social Security recipients will get a cost-of-living raise next year: But it will be so small that many may not even notice—just 0.3 percent. That’s $4 for the average recipient, whose monthly SS check is $1,238. But last year, there was no raise, and what raises there have been over the past five years have been tiny because inflation has been so low.
• Grist interviews campaign chief John Podesta about Hillary Clinton’s stance on environmentalists seen in Wikileaks-hacked emails:
Clinton saying that she’s “at odds with the most organized and wildest” of the environmental movement — those who want to keep all fossil fuels in the ground — and that they should “get a life.” [...]
“The truth is what she has put forward in this campaign,” Podesta said, before rattling off some of Clinton’s ambitious proposals for clean energy, including the installation of half a billion solar panels by the end of her first term, powering every home in America with renewable energy within 10 years, and cutting energy waste in every sector of the U.S. economy by a third.
• Silicon Valley leaders debate cutting ties with Peter Thiel:
On Monday, Silicon Valley diversity initiative Project Include officially cut ties with influential startup incubator Y Combinator, citing YC’s continued employment of venture capitalist and prominent Donald Trump supporter Peter Thiel as a part-time investor.
“We agree that people shouldn’t be fired for their political views, but this isn’t a disagreement on tax policy, this is advocating hatred and violence,” co-founder Ellen Pao wrote in a blog post.
• On today’s Kagro in the Morning show, Greg Dworkin tells us, again, that the race remains stable. Trump World (and Alex Jones) is crazier than you’d ever imagined. How Howard Stern owned Donald Trump. Russian hacking is real. NC Gop can’t help inflating fire story, implicates, then reverses itself.
