Republicans are pouring $25 million into trying to save their Senate majority in these final weeks of the campaign. The money comes from the Senate Leadership Fund, characterized by Politico as “a powerful super PAC with ties to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell” that separately got $20 million from Sheldon Adelson last month. The last-minute $25 million expenditure will be in six states:
The group’s biggest expenditure will be in Nevada, where it will spend around $7.5 million. That contest is razor thin, and Republicans have grown concerned that their candidate, Joe Heck, has lost ground after withdrawing his support for Donald Trump.
It will invest over $5 million in Pennsylvania, where GOP Sen. Pat Toomey is facing a tough reelection fight, and $4 million in Indiana, where Republicans are trying to halt a comeback bid by former Democratic Sen. Evan Bayh.
Other purchases will come in North Carolina, where it will book over $3 million in TV airtime, and in New Hampshire and Missouri, where it will reserve over $2 million apiece.
This shows the Republicans’ desperation, since they’ll be paying high rates for these last-minute ad buys. And they won't be getting any help from Donald Trump. But in close races like these, anything could tip the balance, and $25 million is a lot of anything.
Let's make sure the Senate candidates on the Daily Kos slate have enough money to fight back. Can you give $1 to each of them?
