All that talk of banning Muslims and mass deportation, that was just Donald Trump talking, says RNC Chair Reince Priebus. It's not, like, real, he says.
"I think everyone learns as they go through this process," Priebus said, when asked about Muslims and Latinos who may have felt scared by the news of Trump's election.
"He said that it wasn't a matter of banning a particular religion from the United States but it was making sure that if immigration was coming from countries that were harboring terrorism, that we were going to look at the country and perhaps suspend temporarily immigration from that country," Priebus continued. "He's not calling for mass deportation. He said, no, only people who have committed crimes and only until all of that has been taken care of do we look at what we do next."
See, the problem for Reince is that those statements live forever on the internet. "Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on," said his campaign, which Trump himself reiterated on camera, stressing the "complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States."
And, sorry, Reince. Your guy actually tried to get Latino votes thrown out in the middle of Election Day. You think that community doesn't know exactly what Trump intends to do to them? And you think you might have any influence with Trump? That you can talk him out of being who he is, prevent him from listening to his white nationalist BFF Steve Bannon? Good luck.
