Add another deplorable to the list of domestic extremists giddy over Trump's election. Operation Rescue head Troy Newman, last in the news for arguing that murdering abortion doctors could be considered "justifiable defensive action," is thrilled with Trump's selection of Sen. Jeff Sessions as the next attorney general. The radical anti-abortion group sees a kindred spirit in Sessions.
So they're pledging their support—in, as usual, a distinctly creepy way.
Operation Rescue stands ready to assist the new Attorney General with any potential prosecutions of Planned Parenthood and other abortion businesses for a multitude of felonies committed over the past several years under the protection of the Obama Administration. [...]
“Planned Parenthood’s days of running amok over the laws of the land are nearly over,” said Newman. “A new sheriff is coming to town and the era of old corrupt politicians who have shielded Planned Parenthood from the consequences of their illegal behavior is about to come to an end. Our message to Planned Parenthood today is: You are no longer above the law.”
Historically, Operation Rescue "assistance" in anti-abortion efforts has involved clinic bombings, assisting in the dissemination of hoaxes, and assisting religious extremists looking to assassinate abortion providers.
So the idea that this group wants to "assist" Attorney General Sessions in prosecuting abortion providers marks yet another instance in which the worst elements of America find themselves allied with, and positively enthralled with, Donald Trump's imagined new order. Perhaps he’ll give them uniforms.
