Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher is ready to move past denying that Russia was involved in hacking private email servers for the purpose of disrupting the presidential election. Way past. Rohrabacher has no problem with Russians shifting through people’s mail. In fact, the United State congressman thinks meddling in a United States election is worth a little celebration.
Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher said Thursday that it was "terrific" that voters got more truthful information about Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, regardless of whether the hackers were Russian. ...
"The hackers, whether or not they're Russian hackers, I don't know," the California congressman said. "I know the CIA and the FBI disagree as to who the hackers are. But whether they're Russian hackers or any other hackers, the only information that we were getting from hackers was accurate information, was truthful. And that's not gonna turn the tide. If the American people have been given more truthful information, that's terrific."
In fact, the FBI is in full agreement with the CIA, both that Russia was the source of the hacks, and that they were done to aid Donald Trump. But Rohrabacher isn't the only Republican who is cheering for a foreign power hacking into private email accounts under the supervision of an autocratic despot.
Rep Chris Collins on CNN suggests Russia hack was positive in that it revealed email contents. “It was the truth that came out.”
In Rohrabacher’s case, his love of Putin goes way back. He was one of just 23 congressmen to vote against loan guarantees for Ukraine, and one of just seven who didn’t oppose Russia’s invasion of Crimea. Instead, Rohrabacher praised Putin, and said that Crimea had a “destiny with Russia.”
Collins is most famous for making statements comparing to the Jewish speaker of the New York State Assembly with Adolf Hitler and the Antichrist.
Both would surely welcome someone hacking into their own personal email to see what else they might have said in private. After all, that would just be giving people “more truthful information.”
It’s clear that “It’s a good thing we were hacked” is the new alt-white talking point. And why not? After all, Republicans not only elected an autocratic, bullying, bigoted puppet, they increasing support the puppet master.
The GOP is warming to Russian President Vladimir Putin — even as evidence of his regime’s interference in the election intensifies. …
Back in July 2014 just 10 percent of Republicans held a favorable view of Putin, according to a poll conducted by the Economist and YouGov. By September of 2016, that number rose to 24 percent. And it's even higher today: 37 percent of Republicans view Putin favorably, the poll found in December.
