Oklahoma’s state Senator Joseph Silk is known for a few things. He’s the youngest state senator in Oklahoma history—entering the Oklahoma Senate last year at the tender age of 29. He is shiny! He hates the LGBT community and does not believe they should be afforded the same rights as other citizens. But now, state Sen. Silk will be known as the guy who authored SB 1118. It’s a lot of blither blather reexplaining what first degree murder is—if you purposely shoot someone with a crossbow and kill them that’s murder (it’s in the law!). And then there’s this:
A person commits murder in the first degree when that person performs an abortion as defined by Section 1-745.5 of Title 63 of the Oklahoma Statutes.
It’s followed with the striking out of all mention of legal abortions in the existing statute. In state Sen. Silk’s defense, he’s a sexist, homophobic, asshole. Unfortunately for Silk, his own party is wary of alienating all of the women in Oklahoma.
Senate leadership told Silk his bill goes too far.
“Are you really pro-life if you can actually come out and oppose this bill for no reason?” Silk said. “Don’t say you’re pro-life and you believe life begins at conception if you are willing to allow 6,000 lives being murdered in Oklahoma every year.”
He has a point. A crazy stupid point but a point none the less.
