The last two weeks has included Bernie Sanders praising Hillary Clinton's educational plan, as well Bernie supporting Hillary’s revised health care proposal that incorporated ideas put forward by Sanders. The Democratic platform has also come together with a number of issues key to Sanders voters.
The document—a formal declaration of the party's positions—includes language on breaking up "too-big-to fail" banks, a $15-an-hour minimum wage, a price on carbon and decriminalization of marijuana.
And after rumors for the past week that a formal endorsement was finally in the offing, it looks as if Tuesday is the day.
Bernie Sanders will be joining Hillary Clinton at a New Hampshire rally Tuesday, according to a statement released by Clinton campaign this morning.
The event will take place at Portsmouth High School at 11 a.m. where Sanders and Clinton will "discuss their commitment to building an America that is stronger together and an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top," the statement added.
The formal endorsement on the Democratic side is not just intended to help heal any remaining wounds in the party, but to show that those wounds are already closing. Sanders successfully saw his issues welded into Clinton’s proposals and the Democratic platform.
Meanwhile, Republicans are looking forward to most of their candidates from the primary season skipping out on the Republican convention. No Jeb. No Rubio. Though we can assume that zombie Chris Christie will staring dead-eyed from the wings. And while the runner-up candidate has agreed to speak, that speech is in doubt.
Donald Trump has issued Ted Cruz an ultimatum: Endorse me or forget about giving a speech at July's Republican convention.
On the Democratic side: compromise and working together result in an enthusiastic endorsement. On the Republican side: threats and demands, an every-man-for-himself attitude, and limp support in exchange for an opportunity for self promotion.
Honestly, it’s as if each party decided to act out its philosophy.
Campaign Action
While Democrats are coming together, this is a great time to pledge your support to defeating Trump in the election this fall. And it’s a perfect time to get your name and email down so you won’t miss the opportunities for campaigning and getting out the vote that will be coming to your area over the next few months.
Help both Hillary and Bernie to bring forward a revolutionary step for secondary education and the most progressive platform from the Democratic Party in decades.
This election has the chance to make history in many ways, but none of it will happen unless you’re willing to get out there and knock on doors, make phone calls, register voters, work the polls and do all the things it takes to have a winning ground game.
