The feud between Fox News head Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch’s sons appears to have reached a conclusion: New York magazine is reporting that after initial investigation of Gretchen Carlson’s sexual harassment allegations against him, Ailes is getting the boot. The only question is whether they’ll allow him to stay on during the Republican National Convention.
After reviewing the initial findings of the probe, James Murdoch is said to be arguing that Ailes should be presented with a choice this week to resign or face being fired. Lachlan is more aligned with their father, who thinks that no action should be taken until after the GOP convention this week. Another source confirms that all three are in agreement that Ailes needs to go.
Ailes is the architect of the network’s hard-right news model that during his tenure elevated rage over substance and belligerence over facts, leading to a new conservative movement stupider and less informed than any which came before it. That approach led directly to the installation of a dishonest, know-nothing, idiot showman as the head of the Republican Party.
He has done untold harm to the nation and will be missed by nobody with any remaining shred of decency.
