After reading this post featuring Elizabeth Warren’s warning: “We need to take him very seriously” laid out out in no uncertain terms by Mark Sumner who covers Trumps’ “nightmare-vision” - taking fear-mongering, racism, xenophobia, and the promise of restoring religious dominion-ism and segregation to a new level of rock bottom low, it seemed like another reminder would be a good thing.
Complacency
Something that for years has hurt the Dems in ways that the GOP seem to have less of a problem with.
So this is just a quick repeat of a comment in this mornings post with Elizabeth Warren speaking to Stephen Colbert:
Elizabeth Warren is spot on.
Here is Dan Savage, Joy-Ann Reid, Michael Moore and Bill Maher on the danger of complacency.
The short version:
"I live in Michigan. Let me tell you, it's going to be the Brexit strategy," Moore said.
"The middle of England is Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio and Pennsylvania,"
he continued.
"And Mitt Romney lost by 64 electoral votes. The total number of electoral votes in those states in the Rust Belt: 64. All [Trump] has to do is win those four states."
President Obama won by 126 electoral votes over Mitt Romney in 2012. But if the aforementioned four states and the 64 electoral votes that go with them collectively were to be flipped, Romney would have won that election 270-268.
And a longer version of the same conversation:
“The enemy is complacency,” he said. “Say it every day.”
According to republican analyst Steve Schmidt, an American campaign strategist and public relations worker for the U.S. Republican Party:
Republicans need to capture at least 40 percent of the national Hispanic vote if the GOP is ever going to win back the White House.
..iow’s with Trumps numbers, a win is statistically a very long shot..
..since then though, even the wiliest of the strategists on both sides of the aisle have underestimated the impact of the combination of Trump’s outright theft of Dems diagnosis of what needs doing and positive solution oriented rhetoric combined with a dystopian portrayal of America that lays blame on anyone not of Trump’s targeted audience/base.
Trump has plagiarized the Dems platform of progressive agenda, diagnosis and solutions, offering it as his own populist agenda while severing the link between what he and the GOP actually have in store the people of this and other countries. An agenda/platform that the GOP has been unable to sell unless disguised as the equivalent of a progressive agenda
“Blue collar billionaire” — a description of Trump so ridiculous, so beyond any truth and the fact that it had people, actual people who have had their wages stagnating for decades, skimmed by the likes of a Trump type swindler, listening, and not throwing him off the stage, demonstrates that the threat of a republican in the White House isn’t something that can be laughed off. Especially with manufacturing on decline and union busting in states like Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin that Trumps pretends to have answers for while he preys on workers who have been suffering job loss, wage stagnation, and loss of retirement savings due to republicans exactly like Trump
— We need more than to stop Trump/GOP. This country needs to crush Trump and the GOP with that result “trickling down” ballot in every state, municipality, township, ...all the way in every race we can
— Just thought the conversation with Dan Savage, Joy-Ann Reid, Michael Moore and Bill Maher was worth posting for those who may be interested — thanks for stopping by
— now back to the Pex pluming
