Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz is stepping down as Democratic National Committee chair to widespread celebration, but she doesn’t seem to be planning an out of sight/out of mind strategy. As in, despite being loathed by virtually all Bernie Sanders supporters and many Hillary Clinton supporters, she still plans to go onstage at the Democratic National Convention.
How disastrous an image is this likely to present to the country as Democrats are trying to showcase unity? Here’s a strong clue: Wasserman Schultz currently can’t appear before her own state’s delegation without being raucously booed.
Why? Why would you decide it was a good idea to open the convention with footage of yourself as the leaving-in-disgrace party chair being booed by a couple of thousand people? It can’t be a fun prospect as an individual, and it’s definitely not good for the party she’s supposedly been trying to build and strengthen.
Can someone please talk some sense into Debbie Wasserman Schultz, in a serious hurry?
