Donald Trump likes to shake a tiny finger at the people who make Oreos (even ordering Chris Christie to stop eating them), and air conditioners (even though he made money from the parent company), and small cars. He’s declared that under a Trump administration, those cookies and coupes would be dragged back into the United States and made here, by red-blooded American workers.
But when it comes to Trump’s own products, they carry just about every “Made in ...” tag except "the United States.” Why? Because Trump was just doing the market.
Donald Trump on Monday defended making many of his products overseas while attacking companies for doing the same thing, saying he is just following the market. …
“It’s very easy, I’m just, all I’m doing is, I’m doing the market,” Trump said, when asked how he would defend himself from Hillary Clinton on the issue.
Doing the market? Well, that’s okay then. Those other companies are "disgusting,” but doing the market—that makes it okay for Trump.
Trump said he buys products from the United States when he can.
In an interview earlier on the same show, Trump’s son Eric said it is impossible to make their products in the U.S. because the industry is gone and it would be too costly.
Oddly enough …
Trump ties are made in China. But here are 20 brands of ties made in the U.S.
Trump suits are made in Mexico. But Hickey Freeman, Brooks Brothers, and Hardwick are all made in the USA.
Trump pens are made in China. But Conklin is just one of several companies making pens in the U.S.
Whether it’s umbrellas, shoes, bags, glassware, or clothing there are companies making everything Trump stamps his name on right here in the U.S. But then, the point of Trump products is just that—something he can stamp his name on. Trump doesn’t care about the quality of the products or where they are made any more than he cares about the quality of education delivered at Trump University.
It’s not "doing the market.” It’s just doing a con.
