Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D. NV):
At this point in an election -- the long, hot days of summer before the fall hits -- it’s easy to get wrapped up in the loudest politicians and their flashy attacks.
The Republican National Convention was just that way. Honestly it was just a few clowns short of a circus.
But today, we’re not going to focus on the circus. We’re going to focus on substance.
I want to introduce you to Jason Kander. I’ve written about Jason before -- veteran of the war in Afghanistan. Incredibly successful secretary of state. Running for U.S. Senate in Missouri.
We’ve gotten some great news about Jason recently: He’s pulled within three points of his opponent. Jason and his team have turned this race -- once thought to be safely Republican -- into a real opportunity for us.
Jason needs our help this month to keep pushing ahead. He has a primary approaching and need your help. Can you chip in $5 or $10 to help them out?
I have high hopes for Jason. He’s got a certain way of getting things done with grace, poise, and a fantastic sense of humor. He’d be great in the Senate.
And if Jason wins in Missouri, we’d be well on our way to recapturing the majority.
The most important part? Jason CAN win. The polls confirm it. But he’s already faced nearly $6 million in spending against him -- and he needs everyone’s help to fight against that.
Please help me help Jason. Give $5, $10, or whatever you can to help Team Kander reach their Primary Day goal.
Thank you.
Harry Reid
