"What if someone had treated Ivanka in the way Ailes allegedly behaved?" Powers asked Trump, according to her report. His response: "I would like to think she would find another career or find another company if that was the case."
There are two ways to unpack this thing:
First, as a father of two daughters, I know that Trump lacks that intuitive protective instinct that fathers tend to have for their daughters. That is notable. Instead of condemning the hypothetical harasser, he would tell his daughter to get another job. Not some random woman, his own daughter.
Secondly, Ivanka Trump reports to Donald Trump! Set aside the family thing. Trump is saying if Ivanka is sexually harassed at The Trump Organization, she should just quit. Not just quit her job, but also get out of the property management business altogether! WTF?! Wouldn't the first thing to come your mind be something like:
Ivanka reports directly to me. If she were sexually harassed at my company, I'd find out who did it and that person would be fired immediately.
Right?! Set aside the matter of sexual harassment policy broadly. Wouldn't my response be natural if someone asked you about a direct subordinate?
