PLEASE, have them read 12 Ways Gary Johnson Is a Hard-Core Right-Wing Radical. It appears at Alternet and was written by Adele Stan.
As you will learn early in the piece, Johnson was advice early on by Roger Stone, who was originally a close adviser to Donald Trump, still advocates on his behalf, and who is known for advocating using third parties to split the vote of the opposition.
Johnson’s appeal, particularly to young people and former Sanders supporters, is two fold:
1. his advocacy on behalf of marijuana
2. his ostensibly anti-war position.
Stan warns us that Alternet found the largest corporate contributor to his campaign is a California polluter and that Purple PAC, his political action committee,
is primarily financed by a member of the radical right involved with efforts to privatize public education.
But perhaps you need a series of bullet points. Don’t worry. Stan gives them to you.
As the title of the piece makes clear, there are twelve key points that should be troubling, very troubling, about Johnson to any progressive or liberal.
Let me just list them.
1. Opposes federal guarantees for student loans
2. Opposes virtually all forms of gun control.
3. Opposes the minimum wage.
4. Opposes equal pay laws.
5. Opposes collective bargaining for public employees.
6. Proposes cuts to Social Security and removing Medicare and Medicaid from federal control.
7. Supports private prisons.
8. Gave a sole-bidder contract to Koch Industries
9. May have Koch backing for the 2016 effort.
10. Uses dirty tricksters.
11. Accepts $1 million in PAC money from anti-education right-wing donor.
12. Top corporate contributor slapped with $1.5 million pollution fine.
For each of these assertions, Stan provides the documentation, which makes this a very useful piece to keep handy.
Go take a look. Perhaps pass on, perhaps keep the link handy.
