Thank You. If you are reading this and you have found your way to my Facebook community, I want to express my deep and abiding appreciation.
I am not one to usually make big deals of numeric milestones. Especially at my age and stage in life, things like birthdays seem more tokens of mere longevity than portals into the future. Heck I like to say I am at a point where I don't even buy green bananas anymore.
But I also recognize that getting together for celebrations is really less about the actual event than an opportunity to give thanks and love to your friends and family. So it is in this spirit that I wanted to pause on the occasion of reaching 1,000,000 page likes on my Facebook page. It is only a milestone because of all of you.
I have had many highs and lows in my life and career, with some of those lows self-inflicted. I can be stubborn and ignorant about a lot of things, but this I do know - the past year on social media has been one of the most satisfying and edifying chapters of my life. It is not about me, or some tally of my previous accomplishments, it is about us and a keen sense of what is yet to come.
For all this, I am not only surprised and pleased, but deeply humbled. As I have said before, humility is not a word usually associated with TV news anchors, but I would have to be as obstinate as a rented mule to not realize how special and unexpected this moment is.
I am deeply thankful for my small team of helpers who do so much in sustaining this page. And once again, all of you for making all of this possible.
Finally allow me this one boast, just from reading the comments sections in post after post I would have to believe that you are amongst the most intelligent, thoughtful, and compassionate communities on social media. So God speed. And let's keep going. We now have over a million co-pilots for the wild ride ahead.
