Two and a half weeks into the illegitimate regime of 45, and it’s clear that the only way forward is to support one another personally in our communities. It’s a clear question of survival for those on the edge, and a little help can make all the difference. There were several diaries last year to help crowdfund construction of a solid, secure, warm shelter for Aji & Wings, but they tapered off after the election and with the devastating news of Linda’s (PDNC’s) fight against a resurgence of cancer, as we all threw our efforts to secure medical needs for Linda before she ultimately lost that fight.
But while the last few weeks have been a whirlwind of activity, with both organized and spontaneous marches fighting back against malicious Executive Orders, the need for funds has not slowed. Indeed, there have been some setbacks, and much of the electric needed to be redone, taking funds away from other upcoming expenses. The real danger is in Aji & Wings not being able to afford labor — local guys they know and trust, but those guys have families to support too, and if Aji & Wings can’t afford to pay them, then they’ll have to look for work elsewhere, and who knows when they’d be available to start on the house again. Anyone who’s done any sort of care-taker responsibilities knows how important it is to make sure your own health and well being remain a priority. Otherwise you very easily get run down, over stressed, and are more vulnerable to things that wouldn’t phase you otherwise. Anyone who is familiar with Aji & Wings know how much they care for their community. A quick look at her posting history on DK reveals many diaries written to help others in need. When technical issues with the site caused her to stop writing diaries here, she continued those fundraising efforts on her own blog.
But the strength to help others requires a strong base to start with. Since the banks repossessed the manufactured home they’d been living in, Wings and Aji have spent the last 7 years in an old, rickety RV, which has had many issues, including an electrical fire last year, which was the impetus of efforts to get them into a safe home the banks can’t take away. This is more important than ever, as they had a second electrical fire in the RV a few weeks ago. Read Aji’s piece on their day to day lives, and imagine trying to focus your efforts on helping others and resisting the illegitimate regime while living in those conditions. They’ve been scraping by, with difficulty. So I’d love if we could give back to them, who have aided so many others. Here’s how you can help:
- Most Important: Please share their fundraiser with your networks: Republish to your groups here, Facebook, Twitter, Email lists, etc.
- Donate directly to their You Caring fundraiser (Note — Although YouCaring suggests a small donation amount to them for site operations, it is possible to set this to $0 and the donation to Wings & Aji will still go through).
-
- Or if you prefer, donate via PayPal directly on Aji’s blog.
- They have an Amazon Wishlist set up for things they need either on a day to day basis or for the house (such as the Lowe’s Gift Cards).
- If you’re in the market for amazing jewelry or wonderful photographs, Wings has many beautiful things for sale on his website, NDN Silver by Wings.
- If you already own something by Wings, consider leaving a client testimonial.
- And again, let me reinforce, shares are extremely important; you never know who may see the fundraiser and feel moved to contribute.
Now, let me show you some progress shots on the house:
A lot of progress has been made, but there is still a ways to go. Plumbing fixtures, flooring, plastering, not to mention the funds for fixing the newest electrical fire in the RV and the costs of rewiring in the house, and probably a hundred smaller things that I’m not thinking of right now. Thank you everyone who’s helped get to this point so far.
MATCHING FUNDS AVAILABLE! - An anonymous donor has generously offered to match up to $500 on the YouCaring widget. So even if you only have a small amount to contribute, your donation will be doubled!
