Mike Pence may have a better presentation than Donald Trump, but he too excels at the same double-standard modus operandi that Trump revels in. Pence, who tagged Hillary Clinton as the "most dishonest presidential candidate since Richard Nixon" over her use of private email, was actually doing the very same thing as governor of Indiana. IndyStar reports:
Vice President Mike Pence routinely used a private email account to conduct public business as governor of Indiana, at times discussing sensitive matters and homeland security issues.
Emails released to IndyStar in response to a public records request show Pence communicated via his personal AOL account with top advisers on topics ranging from security gates at the governor’s residence to the state’s response to terror attacks across the globe. In one email, Pence’s top state homeland security adviser relayed an update from the FBI regarding the arrests of several men on federal terror-related charges.
Asked about the news Friday, Pence told reporters there was "no comparison" between what he and Clinton did. To be fair, there is at least one distinction:
In fact, Pence's personal account was hacked last summer. [...]
Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb's office released 29 pages of emails from Pence's AOL account, but declined to release an unspecified number of others because the state considers them confidential and too sensitive to release to the public. [...]
Pence's office said his campaign hired outside counsel as he was departing as governor to review his AOL emails and transfer any involving public business to the state.
Hillary never got hacked that we know of, but gee, the rest of that sure sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Pence and Trump both relentlessly attacked Clinton for not releasing every single one of her emails. Now we find out lawyers sifted through which of Pence’s emails would be made public even as he continues fighting a legal battle to keep some of his emails secret. Seems Pence has some transparency issues.
Readers can decide whether Pence is the "most dishonest" vice presidential candidate since Spiro Agnew for calling Hillary the "most dishonest" presidential candidate since Nixon while doing the very same thing she did.
But what he's clearly in the running for is, the “most hypocritical” politician in history.
