Rep. Steve King (R-IA) is unapologetic about his racism. On Sunday, he tweeted that culture and demographics are our destiny.
And on Monday, he remains unrepentant about what he said and what he means. During an interview this morning on CNN’s New Day, he was given a chance to clear up any misunderstanding—except he was very clear that there was no mistake. Here’s what he said:

King continued his rant by going on about the need for shared values in America and then demonized immigrants who remain in ethnic enclaves where they don’t speak the language and practice American values. He then went on to say that he hopes for an America that is someday homogenous in which we all “look the same.” Of course, we know that is not so subtle code language for an America that is white, or at the very least as an absence of multiple shades of brown and black people.
Chris Cuomo repeatedly asked King if babies from certain ethnic groups were more important than others and each time King paused before answering which garnered the question, “Why do you pause?” from an incredulous Cuomo.
While he never responded to the question, we already know the answer. He paused because he’s a racist—plain and simple. And he knew morning television isn’t the same as the KKK rallies he’s clearly been attending so he wanted to monitor his words to soften his white supremacy. Except he didn’t. He meant what he said and he meant to let us know it. Steve King is an unabashed racist who not only gets to make laws but now has allies in the White House. And the GOP will ignore it completely while Trump supporters will do all sorts of verbal gymnastics to excuse it. This is the Grand Old Party, folks, taking us back closer to Jim Crow every day.
