Monday was not a good day for Donald Trump, given FBI Director James Comey’s testimony to the House Intelligence Committee. But trust Fox News to rush in and try to fix things for Trump.
Comey said both that the FBI is investigating connections between the Trump campaign and Russia’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 elections, and that there’s no basis for Trump’s claims that he was wiretapped by the Obama administration. He also refused to comment on a lot of things because of ongoing investigations, because “We just cannot do our work well or fairly if we start talking about it while we are doing it.” Guess which part Fox highlighted:
Oh, nothing much, just the pr*sident under FBI investigation for collusion with another country’s efforts to undermine American democracy.
Fox also had Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway on to spin the day, but they decided not to give her alternative facts skills too hard a workout:
Conway was not asked by the “Fox & Friends” panel of hosts about Comey’s and Rogers’ assertion that neither the FBI nor NSA had any evidence to support Trump’s wiretapping claim, one the White House has continued to defend despite mounting pressure to either admit a mistake or present proof of the allegation.
Nothing to see here, folks. Nothing at all. Fox News has it under control—just keep watching Fox and you won’t have to hear anything too challenging for the Trump supporter’s mind.
