At long last Donald Trump held a press conference to discuss how he would divest from his businesses and focus on being president. His divestment strategy amounts to turning over his business to his sons, Don Jr. and Eric, with a pinky swear that they will not discuss business matters with their father while he’s in office. During the press conference, he unveiled a large collection of files that he said contained “just some of the many documents I’ve signed turning over complete and total control to my sons.”
CNN got closer for a look at the files and were rebuffed when they asked to see the contents. Team Trump had a staffer closely guarding them, not letting anyone take a look.
Almost immediately people began calling foul. Professional filmmaker Amy Berg had this to say:
And this:
Of course, without seeing the contents it is impossible to say that these were fake. But, the Twitter users believed they were and they unleashed some humor on the situation. A few of my favorites:
If they were nothing more than props, it wouldn’t be the first time the reality TV host pulled a theatrical stunt like this:
"I have very successful companies," the New York billionaire told reporters at the event at Trump National Golf Club Jupiter, in Jupiter, Fla., as raw steaks, bottles of wine and vodka, and magazines stood near the man himself.
Like most of the props in the picture, they were someone else’s products:
A reporter present at Trump's press conference notes that the steaks on the table were not actually a Trump brand, but appear, ironically, to have come from a company named "Bush Brothers.”
