I listened to Rachel Maddow interview Tom Perez last night, and they talked a lot about the DNC chair position and what he thought the party needed to do. Here’s the thing he didn’t say, and she didn’t ask him, and I think every DNC chair candidate must answer:
“What will you do to get money out of politics?”
If the Democratic Party is going to regain credibility and trust, it must reject corporate sponsorship of politicians. We must be confident our elected officials are working for us, not for their special interest backers. There are several other options to promote for financing campaigns: individual donations and public financing are the obvious ones, but I’d be happy with nearly any option that got big money out of the picture. In my opinion, any candidate who doesn’t come down against big money, corporate donations, super PACs, and the rest is simply disqualified.
How do we get this to be THE litmus test for DNC chair candidates?
