It’s bad enough that surplus military equipment gets doled out to local law enforcement, without a nice dollop of sleaze on the side.
The headline says it all.
In nearly microscopic Dewey Beach, Delaware, the Cape Gazette reports the gear has been sold off without ever being accounted for. It’s been used to obtain goodies for … the police department.
Hmmm. A police department misappropriating taxpayer dollars. Who knew?
Since I’d be loath to grant Dewey Beach a monopoly on this sleazy behavior, you might want to ask your town or county electeds whether they’re aware of what's been doled out to their police, and if they can find it.
Don’t forget you can find out who’s gotten what at this federal website.
(By way of background, the police department started a war against the town manager some months back, accusing him of assorted misbehavior, so this is only the latest installment in the Saga Of The Sleazy Dewey Police Dept. This could be titled, “be careful what you ask for when the town ends up calling in an independent investigator.”)
