One thing that the wealthy of our country will be able to do with their big Republican tax breaks is put some of it into offsetting the costs of skyrocketing insurance costs. Right now the Republican Party is trying to re-litigate their big loss on Trumpcare because, well, they need that money for their richest of friends. But the results will be virtually the same: tens of millions of people and their families unable to afford healthcare insurance and people with pre-existing conditions facing bankruptcies all over again. Trump has been doing his part to sabotage affordable health care, and the Republican Party believes that if they can get their tax cut through they will be able to pivot to blaming Democrats when the economy goes belly up again. CNBC reports that one of those great benefits to the “common man” that Paul Ryan keeps touting, will be raising your ACA premiums.
Senate Republicans' proposed tax reform bill would increase Obamacare prices by an average of almost $2,000 per family in 2019, according to an analysis released Thursday.
And the tax bill would lead to 1.8 million more people lacking health insurance in California than currently, another 1 million people becoming uninsured in Texas, and more than 800,000 newly uninsured in New York and Florida each, the report said.
Paul Ryan has been called a “policy wonk” and an “intellectual” leader in the Republican Party. He’s none of those things. He isn’t particularly smart and his sense of policy seems to be based on whatever Mitch McConnell writes on a scotch-soaked napkin and drops on the floor next to Ryan’s bowl. He doesn’t even really have an ideology, because while he says he does, he cannot defend it—even against soft balls thrown by Steve Doocy.
There’s a reason why progressives are against laws that try to stop people from assembling. But I feel like the world would be a better place if there was a single law that said rich white guys are not allowed to assemble and make any decisions together without everybody’s consent.
