What can we agree to? I recently heard famous Watergate reporter, Carl Bernstein, say that “America is in the midst of a cold civil war.” I hate to say it, but I agree with him. I’m right, you’re wrong. My party, not yours. Our chosen news media, our social media posts and “likes” are replete with lines drawn that we do not cross for a moment to see the “other side”. But IS there an “other” side? Isn't there instead a conspiracy of divisiveness that drives us apart from family, friends and other fellow citizens? Who benefits when we battle one another and can’t change each other’s minds? I have some guesses, but it doesn’t matter right now. We all just get one vote if we even choose to use it.
From my own agenda, I have tried to come up with a “starter list”. I am curious to hear what I should add? So, think for a moment beyond the talking points and see if we can agree. Regardless of your party affiliation, social status, whatever, can we agree?
We want to end homelessness.
Provide medical care for all humans.
PLEASE add more of your own.
How do we get there? That’s another discussion. None of us has all the answers, but dialogue is the first step. Many are passionate about these subjects. But let’s declare an armistice and just talk. Just make a list. Could be useful at Thanksgiving?
