This is a question I’ve wrestled with for most of my adult life but has been closer to fore of mind in recent years. As an introvert with some anxiety issues, the idea of phone banking or knocking on doors fills me with dread rather than enthusiasm. I get out of my comfort zone from time to time, — collecting signatures, participating in rallies, etc. — but it’s not something I can do regularly.
Thus far, my activism has mostly taken the form of financial contributions and raising awareness of issues to people close to me. I know that isn’t enough and I want to do more.
The only time I’ve ever regretted not following through with my teenage plan of becoming an attorney is when Trump’s Muslim ban(s) (clumsily) took effect. That’s when I started thinking about the skills I do possess that could be leveraged for greater good.
I’m a software engineer and former semi-professional, published writer. I’m a good problem solver. I have a flexible job (self-employed).
So I ask the good citizens of DKos — where can I find ways to contribute?
