Come what may in 24-or-so hours, Alabama Democrats (and even a few Country Club Republicans) are pulling out all the stops to elect a good man, Doug Jones, to the U.S. Senate tomorrow.
Doug’s from Fairfield, Alabama, a blue collar burb of Birmingham. His dad was a steelworker. As a U.S. Attorney, Doug opened a “cold case” and successfully prosecuted two of the Ku Kluxers who bombed Bham’s 16th Street Baptist Church in September 1963. In recent years he’s practiced law here in Bham. His full bio’s easy to find. Here it is from his campaign site: dougjonesforsenate.com/…
Back to Alabamians. Come what may tomorrow, I’m so very proud to be one of hundreds of thousands of Alabamians — all races, ethnicities, orientations, ages, women and men, business-types and wage earners — who have rallied to the cause of putting a decent, good, integrity-filled person in the Senate, while simultaneously rejecting ignorance, bigotry, misogyny, religious tyranny, and charlatanism.
Also, on the campaign trail I’ve met such kind, spirited, enthusiastic, wonderful people from Maryland, Virginia, Ohio, New York, Illinois, and elsewhere who come to Alabama to campaign with us.
My thanks to those of you here who’ve rooted for us, kept up our spirits, trolled the odious Moore when you could, and have given so very, very generously. Thank you a 1,000 times over!
As I’m a Voter Protection volunteer, I have to be at my assigned polling place at 6:30 tomorrow morning. So am going to try to make an early evening of it.
Some pics from tonight...
