A couple of weeks ago I wrote a DIARY introducing VA-67 Delegate candidate Karrie Delaney. It appears that I wasn’t the only one who saw a glimmer in Karrie, other people are speaking up on her behalf as well.
Recently, Karrie is starting to bring over some elected Democrats over to her side. Here is just a quick sample of the public endorsements that she has rung up over the last couple of weeks;
"We need leaders in Richmond who will focus on the issues that move our state forward" said Chair of Fairfax County Supervisors, Sharon Bulova. "Karrie Delaney has the right values to represent Northern Virginia in the General Assembly and she is committed to putting progress before politics and getting results for our community."
"Karrie's experience representing our community on the library board and commitment to making this a great place to call home makes her the best candidate for delegate in the 67th district" said Supervisor Kathy Smith.
"I'm proud to endorse Democrat Karrie Delaney to represent the 67th district in Virginia" stated Supervisor John Foust. "I'm especially pleased to see all she is doing to make our libraries engines for economic development in our region and I know she will bring this same innovation and leadership to Richmond."
Not a bad start. But that’s just what it is, it’s a start. In actuality, since I wrote my previous diary, Karrie has picked up the endorsements of 8 different elected officials in Virginia. Here’s the complete list;
Sen. Barbara Favola (SD-31)
Hon. Sharon Bulova (Fairfax County Board of Supervisors): Chairman
Hon. John Foust (Fairfax County Board of Supervisor)
Hon. Kathy Smith (Fairfax County Board of Supervisors)
Del. Alfonso Lopez (HD-49): Democratic Whip
Del. Jennifer Boysko (HD-86)
Del. Eileen Filler-Corn (HD-41)
Del. Kathleen Murphy (HD-34)
Karrie is starting to pick up steam. As I wrote in my previous diary, this should be a very strong district for Karrie to run in, the GOP has the larger precincts, but the Democrats have the numerically stronger ones in terms of turnout. And with Das Donald uniting most of the country against him, we should be able to drum up even better turnouts in November. If you’re interested in more of the numbers, please click on the link to the diary in the first paragraph.
Since the legislature in Virginia is still in session, we are still in the window where incumbents cannot solicit or even accept donations. At the time of my last diary, her opponent held about a $45,000 advantage over her, there hasn’t been a more recent report issued yet. But every dollar we raise for her now helps her to level the playing field before LeMunyon can start to crank up his war chest machine. Let her frame the message of the campaign before he can get out there and try to do it himself.
The best warm up for the 2018 midterms is going to be the 2017 off year elections in Virginia. They could also be an early indication of how things are shaping up for 2018 in terms of public displeasure for Trump and the GOP. Let’s make it a good one. Let’s give Karrie the help she needs to flip this seat.
