Yesterday two Republican senators said they would be voting against Betsy DeVos for Education Secretary. That means that we only need one more senator to vote no and her nomination is defeated.
Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) is one of the targets that progressive activists believe can be persuaded to vote no on DeVos. Keystone Progress, and other organizations, have urged their members to call Toomey’s office.
There’s a big problem with that strategy.
Pennsylvanians have called Toomey’s office so much that he has turned off his capitol and district office phones. When people call Toomey’s offices, they are sent directly to voice mail. Unfortunately, all of their voicemail inboxes are full, so no one can leave a message. It’s a nice way to claim that you’re not hearing from your constituents.
Keystone Progress has a link that allows you to send a letter via email to bypass his phone blockade.
