There have been several blogs posted about Khizr Khan cancelling a trip to Canada because of some type of travel review. Please follow the link if you haven’t read the story yet. It took off on the internet, and then of all of sudden people started questioning the story.
The major news networks are not talking about it and last night there was no mention on MSNBC. I suspect that none of the major outlets have been able to confirm the “travel review” part. When Mr. Khan was contacted by CTV he chose not to comment. This is becoming a very interesting story that I suspect may not end the way it started.
Some questions are beginning to rise.
A State Department official told the Daily News that there is no such U.S. State Department procedure for reviewing "travel privileges" and that anyone with a valid U.S. passport can enter and leave the U.S.
...
A request for comment to the Canadian Foreign Ministry was transferred to the country's border agency.
And others have been checking.
Now Snopes.com is looking into the story and has not reached a conclusion but makes the following statements.
RamsayTalks host Bob Ramsay told Snopes via e-mail that he did not know which agency got in touch with Khan, and that his company was not contacted prior to Khan’s cancellation.
...
As a U.S. citizen, Khan may leave the country and re-enter it provided his passport is valid, though other countries have the option of deciding whether to let any U.S. citizen enter. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency does not contact citizens prior to their traveling outside of the U.S. We queried the Canada Border Services Agency seeking comment but have yet to hear back.
Khan has not issued any further comment regarding the event cancellation.
This story is not playing out like a normal story. I will be very cautious until Mr. Kahn comes forward with a more definitive explanation or some major news sources can confirm or add additional information. I fear that this story does not end well for Mr. Kahn.
The best journalistic outlets are very cautious of the stories they report and usually want to see multiple sources to confirm the story. DailyKos has a pretty big following in the liberal community so it seems we might want to error on the side of caution before we buy into stories that have not yet been confirmed by legitimate sources.
Let me emphasize, Mr. Kahn’s claims may be real, or may not, we just don’t know and shouldn’t reach any conclusions until the claim is clarified.
