Oh, FFS:
Republican Karen Handel got national attention when she quit a breast-cancer charity because of its ties to an abortion provider.
That’s an … interesting way to say Handel resigned after presiding over a major public relations disaster for her employer, Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Handel got Komen to cut off cancer screening funding to Planned Parenthood, and then resigned after Komen reversed course following a national outcry.
Let’s do a little naming and shaming here: That attempt to put lipstick on a pig comes from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Greg Bluestein. But that career disaster for Handel and the extremist views that led to it—remember, Planned Parenthood is an important source of health care for many low-income women, and is very popular with the public—generally seems to be being overlooked in press accounts of her background.
Jon Ossoff has it right:
“Karen Handel abused her position at a breast cancer foundation to attack women’s health care for her own political gain,” he said in an interview. “I will be an independent voice for Georgia’s women. I will defend their access to reproductive healthcare. And they’ll be able to count on me.”
Quite the contrast.
Help protect women's health care by giving Jon Ossoff $5.
