This must be a joke from Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, who claimed Wednesday morning that the Senate Intelligence Committee was "vigorously pursuing" the Russia investigation less than 24 hours after the committee chair tasked the New York Times with obtaining and releasing James Comey's memo. Here's Collins:
“I do not see the need for an independent commission or a select committee. The Senate Intelligence Committee is very aggressively and vigorously pursuing all of the evidence related to the Russian investigation in a completely bipartisan way.”
“All” of the evidence, senator? Have you talked to the chair of your committee lately? Because he thinks the New York Times is responsible for making critical evidence publicly available. Forget that whole subpoena power thing—when a media outlet reports something that hadn’t been previously uncovered, it's apparently up to them to obtain the documentation and get it out there for public review.
Collins, who is seriously considering a run for governor in Maine, appears to be more worried about distancing Trump voters in her state than actually getting to the bottom of whether the pr*sident is putting our republic at risk.
