Give me your tired, your poor
Your soaked and bedraggled …
One of two May Day events in Pittsburgh kicked off at the Hot Metal Bridge, moved to a brief stop at the local headquarters of Homeland Security/ICE then down Carson Street eventually ending at the Federated Teachers Union building. Lots of organizations participated: Labor Council for Latin American Advancement, Thomas Merton Center, The Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers, 32BJ SEIU, Bent the Arc, Case San Jose, Education Rights Network, Fight Back PGH, Fight for $15, Fight for Lifers West, Friends of Farmworkers, Human Rights City Alliance, Industrial Workers of the World, International Socialists Organization, OnePA, Pittsburgh Democratic Socialists of America, PA Immigration and Citizenship Coalition, Pittsburgh United, Planned Parenthood of Western PA, Socialist Alternative PGH, and United Steelworkers Local 3657.
The event began in a driving rainstorm and ended in steady rain. I don’t think I’ve been that wet since I was floating in amniotic fluid. The inclement weather held down the number of people marching and photography was a bit of a challenge.
Still, the continued depredations committed on the body politic by the morally bankrupt vulgarian currently usurping the presidency helped to inspire around 300 people to brave the weather and give injustice a very emphatic middle finger.
