Sean Hannity and a legion of far-right conspiracy theorists are not backing down from claiming that Seth Rich, the young Democratic National Committee staffer who was murdered in 2016 (probably by Hillary Clinton in troll-land; in a botched robbery according to the police), was WikiLeaks’ source of DNC emails. They’re bringing added grief to Rich’s family and attacking anyone who gets in their way, and now they have a Republican member of Congress backing them up:
Well, if it’s on THE INTERNET, okay then. There's nothing fake out there. Morgan Freeman really did die in 2012 … and 2010.
It’s not like there are entire sites dedicated to investigating and debunking false information on the internet, and … hey, look, one such site has an article about Seth Rich conspiracy theories! What do you know, there’s stuff circulating on the internet that has the benefit of being accurate—and, as a side benefit, won’t continue to victimize the grieving family of a murdered man.
It would be fun to start a rumor that Blake Farenthold had been spotted in ducky pajamas leering next to a young woman in lingerie, but that one’s true, so “the internet” will have to work a little harder to come up with something suitable to “circulate” about him.
