Our tweeter-in-chief is the butt of jokes around the world. At a dinner for journalists, one that is usually off-the-record, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull took the opportunity to brutally mock Donald Trump and his “winning” while telling the audience about his time with Trump in New York. From 9 News Australia:
“It was beautiful. It was the most beautiful putting-me-at-ease ever," he jokes. He even does a Donald Trump impersonation.
"The Donald and I, we are winning and winning in the polls. We are winning so much, we are winning, we are winning like we have never won before," he says.
He also alludes to the probe into the Trump campaign's links with Russia, adding: "I have this Russian guy… Believe me, it's true, it is true."
Ooof! After the audio-video leaked (which you can see here), Turnbull said it was all in good fun:
"It's a breach of protocol, it's a breach of faith and all those things, but it's light-hearted, affectionate, good natured.
Good-hearted joking around or not, it doesn’t exactly express confidence in our tweeter-in-chief. World leaders, including our closest allies, are openly mocking him in public. The crowd responded with raucous laughter. What are they saying in private? How can he negotiate the “best” deals with people who know what he is—a con man and the natural butt of jokes? Answer: He can’t.
So, congratulations to Donald Trump. You’ve taken a once respected nation, the shining light on the hill, and snuffed it out, making us the laughingstock of the world in only four short months. Winning.
