The Business Roundtable is embarking on a multi-million-dollar national TV and radio campaign, beginning in early August, to give tax reform extra momentum over the congressional recess.
Done in cooperation with White House, Treasury, and House and Senate leadership, this is BRT’s effort to cast a potential tax overhaul as a once-in-a-generation opportunity.

I saw one of these ads the other night here in Arizona. Straight boiler plate about freeing businesses and lowering your taxes and good jobs, blah blah.
The Business Roundtable was formed in 1972 after William Powell wrote a serious letter to the Chamber of Commerce, advocating the takeover of the political system by big business. They are an organization of the top CEOs of the largest corporations in the US. They have played a major role in tax cuts by Reagan and Bush, and for defeating anti-trust, consumer protection, and labor and full employment legislation.
They are not dumb, they are business, they would not waste money on a major campaign like this if legislation was not getting ready to be introduced soon. There is not much about it in the media or online, if you google “tax cut legislation” you get mostly articles about the ACA repeal. But we know that the House and Senate both are working on their proposals in secret, behind closed doors without participation from Democratic legislators. I can sense that these proposals are getting ready to be dropped on us.
From what we know of the proposals, at least from Trump’s wish list, is that they will have a small crumb of a couple hundred dollars for you, and millions for people like the Trumps, Kushners, and Manaforts of the world. And I am convinced that this is the number one priority of this administration and the Republican congress, the ACA was simply another way to accomplish similar goals.
Just remember, if it is from the Business Roundtable, it is not in your best interest. I am not an expert on these proposals, but I am going to learn, and I urge everyone to start paying more attention to this and gear up for a resistance as loud and strong as we did for the ACA repeal.
